This exhibition, organised in collaboration with Obra Social “la Caixa”, offers a survey of landscape painting from the triumph of naturalism to the mid-20th century through a selection of works from the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection.
Divided into five sections, the exhibition aims to emphasise the role of landscape painting in the renewal of modern art through the quest undertaken by artists for greater freedom of execution and direct contact with nature. It reveals the interesting network of connections that arose between Spanish painters such as Martín Rico, Meifrén and Rusiñol and the principal trends in international art, represented in the exhibition by Friedrich, Courbet, Van Gogh and Monet, among others.
