Flamenco as modern Bohemia
From 12 July to 04 August 2012
When flamenco first emerged as a performance art around two hundred years ago it took shape as a modern, artistic, avant-garde and provocative form of expression that was deeply rooted in European Romanticism. Flamenco arose within the context of the Orientalist pictorial imagery that is so well represented in the Collection. In the present day it is a vibrant, vigorous and updated art form that has preserved its heritage intact but which is also a living mode of expression, a canvas of boundless sensations and emotions and a mirror of what we were and are now.
Lectures, Famenco Performances, Informal talks and music in the gallery, Film and colloquium.
