Sacred texts are the focus of this selection of masterpieces from the Carmen Thyssen Collection. The Passion of Christ, New Testament stories, the lives of saints and popular religious tradition are the sources that inspired these artists to transmit their devotion, faith and emotion.
These works of art span a broad chronological period from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century. The images that they depict enable the viewer to visualise stories of sacrifice, legends and miracles and to appreciate different concepts of spirituality and its evolution over the centuries. Such a display has been made possible by the richness and diversity of the works in the Carmen Thyssen Collection.
